About

Hello,

I’m Common Sense Kid and I hate talking about myself…but here it goes.

I started learning music, mixing and music production from my bedroom on my laptop at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. After spending most of my adult life owning a guitar but only ever knowing powerchords…and not knowing what chords or notes I was playing I decided to learn properly with a bit of help from my best mate Steve

That was pretty much the first 12months and putting on Soundcloud some rough tracks that were not mixed and the vocals were recorded on my laptop microphone.

2021

The first Song I realeased my first song See You In Hell in May 2021, after 12months or so or learning. Purely because it was the easiest song for me to mix…and not my best song.

Shortly after, I done a cover of Madonna’s Material Girl and submitted it to Ska Punk International‘s compilation albums Songs For Moms Vol. 1 which was raising money for the American cancer Charity Prevent Cancer. I told Ska Punk International that I think I may have committed a crime against ska…and music. Which surprisingly I think intrigued him more than anything and it ended up on the comp with bands like Catbite, Hans Gruber & The Diehards, Half Past Two, Richler’s, Megawave, Boss Battle and more.

I got to know a lot of people by doing that, while admittedly the attempt at the cover was pretty feeble. Shortly after I released the song Old Dog, which people really seemed to like

In September 2021, I released a cover of Anti-Flag’s, That’s Youth for the 9/11 for Peace compilation, raising money for Afghan Refugee Relief. Featuring artists such as Hoity Toity, Joker’s Republic, Holy Schnikes!, Lumpy, Illicit Nature and The NPCs

In October 2021, I released an EP of the songs called ‘Maybe This is a Midlife Crisis?‘ I had been working on since learning music at the start. The idea of it was that is was a collection of songs, each one being a genre or having an influence from a genre of music that I listen to. I think people enjoyed it and there was a interview on the Bearded Gentlemen website

…and then in December I ruined Christmas.

2022

In January 2022 I sent Ska Punk International a couple of new tracks I had been working on and a cover of Imagine Dragon’s Radioactive that I was doing for Songs for Moms Vol 2. to which they replied “Holy Shit, you levelled up” a few days later he told me he was thinking about starting a record label off the back the podcast and would like to put out whatever I was going to do next.

In February I teamed up with my friend Celine of Checkered Past: The Ska’d Cast podcast and released a cover of Bloodhound Gang’s Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss, which people seemed to really like.

In March 2022 I did a vocals for the Holy Schnikes! cover of OMC’s How Bizarre after I posted a silly tweet about how I would love to do a cover of it. I was sent a scratch track within 2 days of that tweet

July 2022 I released my first new song that ‘Blinded by a Black Hole’ that was a mixture of my love for ska punk and bands like Pendulum and Prodigy to a surprisingly positive reception. The cover of Radioactive was released as B-Side on Ska Punk International Records

2023

During the lockdowns I got to know Andy B of Andy B and the World, New Riot and Fandangle as we were both based in Somerset. In February 2023 he asked me if I wanted to do some drum n’ bass synth noises for the new song Apathetic and be in the music video

To be continued….unless the album flops and I need to go hide in a cave for eternity.
